Tell about this item to your friends:

Carnival badge, Netherlands, 1325-1375, depicts a copulating couple framed by a small-tooth comb that was commonly used to comb out lice. It ironically alludes to the fact that brothel-goers often had to comb out their hair with a similar comb afterwards. From the book "Sieraad en devotie in middeleews vlaandreen" by Jos Kolderweij.
Brass. Size 50 x 30 mm.
